Wind

I hate the wind.

Kansas is known for its wind. Sometimes it howls for days at a time. It gets to the point where I can’t think straight any more. I get agitated and irritated. The gusts wake me up at night.

I hate the wind.

John likes to say the air must be moving at 40 miles per hour or higher to be classified as wind. Anything below 40 is “just a breeze”. Even the National Weather Service will forecast a day as being “breezy with gusts up to 40 miles an hour”.

I hate the wind.

Nothing pains me more than learning that there is a museum honoring windmills. Even worse is its location - my home state, Indiana. At least they don’t have wind.

I hate the wind.

I have heard all the jokes about Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz, and never want to hear another one.

I hate the wind.

Terah, at the risk of sounding, well, younger than I am, Nebraska residents always explain a strong North wind by saying Kansas sucks. But if you’re getting a strong Southerly breeze…I don’t know what could be causing that.

metaperl reviews Haskell: The Craft of Functional Programming.

Terah and Cliff have a little discussion about the mild breeze in Kansas.

My justification for a 40MPH breeze:

If 40MPH was a wind, then what would you call 60MPH? (That’s not all that uncommon around here)

60MPH is a good stiff wind, I think.

We also get the 200MPH varieties. Those are a bit too breezy for me.

but what about all that waving wheat that sure smells sweet when the wind comes right before the rain?

Cliff, I don’t know what could cause a strong breeze in Kansas, but it’s probably caused by Kentucky. Most of the country’s problems originate there.

Marty, the smell of wheat does not make the wind any better! (Especially with my allergies.) However, your comment sounds like good lyrics for a country song!
