The Ugly

Last week I wrote about The Good and The Bad. Today’s post is about an unrelated topic, but is very much The Ugly.

In about 6 weeks 11 of my clients will no longer be my clients. And they will no longer receive the in-home services they need in order to safely remain living independently. There was a plan to avoid this situation, but the plan didn’t work.

It is possible that an additional 21 will also stop receiving services, but I don’t know about them yet.

When I think about it my stomach churns.

So, I’m getting into full social worker battle mode. The mode that quickly develops when you see the results of abuse and neglect of society’s most vulnerable people. The mode where I say the facts as they are without any sugar coating. No apologies and no excuses. The mode where I become sarcastic and jaded, expecting nothing good from humanity.

Every helping professional reaches this point at least once during their career. I’ve been here several times.

I can’t help my clients. Maybe my battle mode will help me protect myself.
