I have a tendency to make medical professionals laugh. Usually it's not my intention – it just happens.

Last week at my regularly scheduled OB appointment I got the doctor going. I remarked that the previous week my urine sample had been “colorful”, and this week I was “negative”. Doesn't it seem like you would rather be colorful than negative? The doctor laughed and then started listing other adjectives that you don't want to be called: interesting, unique...

Last week I also saw my eye doctor who has been the eye doctor for John's family for at least 20 years. I told the doctor, “I seem to have trouble focusing when changing distances. For example, when I'm looking at the TV and then look at the remote, it takes a while for the remote to focus. And because of who my husband is, you really do have to look at the remote – there are a lot of buttons.” The doctor laughed so hard that I thought he was going to fall over. As he wiped the tears out of his eyes he said, “I'm sorry to laugh at you, it's just that I have one of those remotes, too. And my wife can't stand it!”
