Terah, at the risk of sounding, well, younger than I am, Nebraska residents always explain a strong North wind by saying Kansas sucks. But if you're getting a strong Southerly breeze...I don't know what could be causing that.

My justification for a 40MPH breeze:
If 40MPH was a wind, then what would you call 60MPH? (That's not all that uncommon around here)
60MPH is a good stiff wind, I think.
We also get the 200MPH varieties. Those are a bit too breezy for me.

but what about all that waving wheat that sure smells sweet when the wind comes right before the rain?
Cliff, I don't know what could cause a strong breeze in Kansas, but it's probably caused by Kentucky. Most of the country's problems originate there.
